About
Baux and Bone was created in 2022 by Emma Burluraux, bringing together a love of design, craftsmanship and dogs.
After many years of experience as an accessories designer collaborating with brands and manufacturers across the UK, Italy, India, and the Far East, Emma wanted to return to hands-on craftsmanship. She began working with leather by hand, prioritising UK sourced materials and suppliers—supporting heritage industries and keeping production as local as possible. In 2023, Emma was awarded a grant by The Leathersellers Foundation to further develop her craft through specialised training.
Each piece is designed and handcrafted by Emma in her small South East London studio using traditional saddlery tools and techniques. Every product is tested by Emma or her lurcher Margot—the brand’s four-legged muse. Items are made to order or in very small batches, helping to reduce waste and avoid overproduction.
Baux and Bone is proud to support fellow UK businesses. From sourcing leather and solid brass hardware to developing bespoke knife patterns for hound collars and creating custom brass embossing stamps, each detail is carefully considered. Our organic cotton dust bags and hand-stamped rubber labels used in packaging are made by UK suppliers.
We work exclusively with vegetable-tanned leathers, a natural by-product of the farming industry that would otherwise go to waste. This leather is free from harmful chrome and is finished with durable brass hardware. It ages beautifully, developing a unique patina over time—and when its journey ends, it is biodegradable, unlike synthetic alternatives.
